The Old Time Gathering will begin with a patriotic
parade on Saturday, June 30, and culminates on the Fourth with
a Merchants Open House, Barbecue Cook-Off, live music on the courtsquare
and a live radio remote broadcast.
This year’s fireworks display will be on Tuesday, July 3.
The show will be at the Stone County Fairgrounds, and everyone
is invited to arrive early for music by Roger Gardner & Friends,
cake walks, food concession and clogging performance.
The opening ceremony for the festivities
will be Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at the courthouse stage. The Red,
White & Blue Parade
will begin at 10 a.m., with the Rolling Thunder motorcycle group
from Little Rock as grand marshals. Rolling Thunder is a non-profit
organization committed to assisting American veterans from all
eras with a special interest of publicizing POW/MIA issues.
Following the parade there will be live
music at the courtsquare gazebo and children’s games on
the courthouse lawn.
Sunday will offer Praise in the Park at
the City Park Amphitheater at 8 a.m., then at 2 p.m. a gospel/patriotic
concert will be staged at Brickshy’s Backstreet Theater.
There is free admission to both events.
An old-fashioned street dance with live
music by Roger Gardner & Friends
will be held Monday from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Bank of Mountain View
parking lot off Jefferson Street.
Downtown merchants will be having special sales and registrations
for door prizes all day on July 4. There will be live music at
the courtsquare gazebo, and KFFB 106.1 radio will offer a live
remote in the afternoon, with a big prize drawing at 4 p.m.
The Barbecue Cook-Off will begin the morning
of the Fourth on Washington Street directly north of the courthouse.
Registration fee is $25 and participants must provide their own
cut of pork to barbecue, as well as grill/smoker, charcoal, etc.
First place prize is $300, second place is $200 and third place
is $100 with prizes sponsored by First Service Bank. Details about
the contest are still being determined. For more information contact
