Education

The public school system consists of three schools located in Stone County and continues to play an important role in the growth of this community. Area schools work toward developing students physically, socially and academically. A commitment to excellence remains deep-rooted, as evidenced by the many accomplishments of our students in state and national competitions in many disciplines.

Mountain View Schools, located in Mountain View, serve the Eastern section of the county, including the communities of St. James, Pleasant Grove, and Fifty-Six. It has 1279 students and 94.5 teachers. (870) 269-3443

Rural Special Schools, located in the Southern section of the county, have 205 students and 20 teachers. (870) 363-4365

Timbo Schools, located in the Western part of the county, have 292 students and 26 teachers. (870) 746- 4303

Ozarka College operates as a two-year public post-secondary institution offering technical certificates and associate level degrees as well as basic adult education and workplace skills training. With a low student-faculty ratio, Ozarka prides itself on the quality of education and service available to individual students.

Distance delivery allows for web-based interactive video and telecourse classes for students. The college has transfer agreements in place with four-year colleges and universities around the state, allowing students in its Assocoiate of Arts program to transfer easily. Many non-credit, continuing education and personal enrichment courses are available.

Ozarka College is accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. The college is currently expanding and building a new campus on the eastern edge of town, near Mountain View High School.

The library houses over 20,000 materials and has public access computers and internet. Other services include a Summer Reading Program for children, Preschool Story Time, and Visual Handicapped Center. The library is currently open Tuesday - Friday, and Saturday until 1:00 pm.
